The role of School Trustee requires an ongoing commitment to be well informed on all sides of an issue. It is critical to this commitment to maintain open and regular communication with the staff, students, parents, and educational partners who make up our community.

I have made it my priority to connect with those I serve and work with, to better understand their concerns and their needs.

I am proud of the work our Board of Education has accomplished, especially around our work on the 3-Year Operating Plan, creating our Vision, Values, and Goals statement, the development of our current 10-Year Strategic Plan, and the transparency we have created around the sensitive issue of land assets through the development of our restructured Land Management process.

But the work is not done. As a Board, we face an upcoming negotiating cycle in 2019, and our 3-Year Operating Plan expires this year. This work requires insights like those I bring to the table, ensuring continuity from the current Strategic Plan 2011-2021 in key policy areas such as student and staff safety through our Restraint and Seclusion policy, while  collaborating to develop a whole new framework for our upcoming Strategic Plan 2022-2032 that reflects the rapidly changing environment of education.

I encourage everyone to become as informed as you can in this important campaign year. There are many opportunities to get to know your candidates, and I will be there to answer your questions, and to listen to your concerns and needs. Please come out to the Candidates Meetings and share your thoughts about education in 2018 and beyond!
